Mating Pair of Barred Owl at White Rock Lake, Dallas Texas

It was a great morning today finally got a shot of the mating pair of Barred owls together at Sunset Bay, White Rock Lake – in a good perch and pleasant background that are hard to come by in this thick wood area at this time of the year. Better yet, the pair were grooming for a good 15-20 minutes and i opted for video with beautiful and best angle possible behavior footage captured! No, no one, not a single jogger in this usually busy morning side of the park passes by to spoil the moment i’ve been waiting for.

The female is skittish. She will not tolerate spectators underneath her, in a close or far distance. The male on the other hand is very approachable. If you happen to spot the male in a good perch, don’t go after it. Give it a little room, find a good angle and you may have a chance to get both together in a frame. The female usually makes the initiative to approach her mate for grooming process. She is the one at the left, with larger beak, streaks and eyes.

The pair of love birds were cleaning each other off for a long duration and i managed a few stops for still images. Stay tune for the video footage – it’s very nice, I promise.
