Barred owl Fledgling Portrait

Persistence pays dividends. After weeks of trying, i got a clear view of Barred Owl fledgling in close distance.

Often too late when the Barred Owlets came out to play at White Rock Lake, not to mention in an environment with thick vegetation and they perch rather high up but not this evening.

One of the three Barred Owl fledglings flew down on an open perch about 15-feet tall right in front of me. There, the moment i’ve been waiting for and not to mention gaining extra stop of light without teleconverter. My frequent visits have also dropped their guard and they don’t mind my presence at all.

When light falls, these playful youngsters are very vocal. You can hear “feed me” high pitch hiss echoes in distance. Here’s the tip. Listen to the calls and that’s how you find them.
